Organize Item 1: TALE developed and implemented the 2017-2018 TALE Strategic Plan, which included a mission and goals for advocacy development.

During 2017-2018, TALE developed and implemented the 2017-2018 TALE Strategic Plan.  This plan included a mission, three measurable goals, and three specific strategies for advocacy development.

Organize Item 2: TALE's advisory board provided oversight for TALE's Advocacy Development committee.
(O2 - develop Advisory Board for Legislative Committee)

​During 2017-2018, TALE's executive officers and board members served as the advisory board for TALE's Advocacy Development committee.  During the monthly TALE board meetings, the co-directors of TALE's Advocacy Development Committee provided a report on committee activities and sought input from the advisory board. 

 Organize Item 6: TALE facilitated communication related to education and action in a systematic manner.
(O6: Establish a system for education and action) 

Communication procedures for the Advocacy Development committee were updated and observed during 2017-2018. 

Organize Item 7: TALE sent frequent action alerts to TALE members.

During the period of July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018, the TALE Advocacy Committee disseminated Advocacy Alerts on the following dates:

  • October 15, 2017
  • November 5, 2017
  • January 15, 2018
  • February 25, 2018
  • April 16, 2018

Organize 08: TALE's Advocacy Development committee held an open meeting during the 2018 TALE Conference.
(O8: Organize and present a legislative session or strand of sessions at the state/provincial leadership workshop)

During the 2018 TALE Conference, the Advocacy Development committee hosted a membership awareness event and encouraged attendees to consider becoming committee members. 

Organize Item 9: TALE hosted a book drive during the 2018 TALE Conference.

The 2018 TALE Conference was held at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas on February 23-24, 2018.  During the event, conference attendees participated in a book drive to support literacy efforts for an Amarillo-based nonprofit organization, Storybridge.​  Monetary donations were collected during conference registration.  Additionally, TALE partnered with Barnes & Noble to collect books and monetary donations during the conference.
